Redskins RB Matt Jones Injures Shoulder Against Jets

Running back Matt Jones had to head to the locker-room early Friday to get an X-Ray on his left shoulder.

The results revealed an AC sprain in Matt Jones' left shoulder. The severity of the injury was not immediately known, but Jones returned to the sidelines after the half with his left arm in a sling.

Jones carried the ball seven times for 31 yards in the first quarter before coming out of the game favoring his left shoulder. Durability has been a key issue for Jones who missed major time last year during his rookie season. The Redskins wanted to get him at least seven carries in the game.

The Redskins are still trying to access if Jones can be a full-time back in the NFL.

Redskins Lose Rookie Linebacker for Year With Torn Labrum

Washington Redskins rookie inside linebacker Steven Daniels will miss his entire rookie season with a torn labrum in one of his shoulders. Daniels was drafted in the seventh round of this years draft out of Boston College.

Daniels is upset, but is focused on staying positive in the meantime. “It’s extremely frustrating because I’ve never missed a football season before,” Daniels said. “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to play in the NFL and be on a team at all, and to not get that is definitely discouraging. I’ve just got to stay positive and keep working.”

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden was asked about the injury at his press conference Friday. “Steven Daniels has a labrum [injury]. He’s probably going to have surgery. We’re going to probably decide that today, but [it] looks like he’ll have surgery.”

If surgery is in fact the route Daniels takes, which it appears it is, then he will be lost for the entire year. When asked if Daniels would be placed on IR if he's waived and later clears waivers Gruden replied, “Likely, yes. That’s Scot’s [General Manager Scot McCloughan’s] deal.”

Daniels will now have to try and get used to not playing football for the first time in years. “I’ve never been without a football season and now I don’t have a football season right now,” Daniels said. “I’ve just got to take it day by day and stay learning from the older guys and just take it step by step.”
